Upholstering with Woven Horsehair Fabric
Greg Cuppit-Jones will demonstrate how to work with genuine woven horsehair fabric supplied by John Boyd Textiles.
Horsehair cloth behaves differently from conventional furnishing fabric. Its structure, restricted width and distinctive surface require careful planning, cutting and handling. Greg will share practical tips and techniques for achieving a professional finish while making the most of this exceptional material.
John Boyd Textiles has woven horsehair fabric in Castle Cary since 1837 and remains one of the last companies in the world producing it. The cloth is woven using horse tail hair with cotton or silk warps on historic looms and is valued for its lustre, durability and distinctive appearance.
Come and see the fabric being used, ask questions and gain the confidence to consider horsehair cloth for a future commission.
