LOUIS XVI Dossier a Tableau with Armand Verdier

This three-day course, led by Armand Verdier, focuses on the construction of a Louis XVI “dossier a tableau”, a classic rectangular back detail commonly found in French period furniture of the late 18th Century.

Participants will

  • Construct a rectangular dossier back panel

  • Practise precise stitching techniques specific to this style

  • Develop a clear understanding of structure and layout

  • Apply traditional upholstery methods used in Louis XVI work


Materials and finish

Each participant will complete the back using period-appropriate damask fabric and trim, provided as part of the course, ensuring a historically appropriate finish.

This course is open to both students and professional upholsterers who wish to develop or refine their technical skills in traditional upholstery.


Armand Verdier

Armand Verdier began training at age 15 in Normandy, before studying at École Boulle in Paris. During this time, he gained experience in the UK, working at Buckinghamshire New University and alongside leading traditional upholsterer Angela Burgin.
